God, listen to Gary Numan. The reason, he puts Punk into it. Punk is hard to define, but worth it. Punk is a nervous, agitated energy. It puts an urgency to things and makes you uncomfortable, when it’s done right.
Think David Byrne in the late 70s, and him jerking about, smacking his palm on is forehead: that’s Punk. You can think mohawks and safety pins, and that’s Punk too, but the thing about Punk, it’s an attitude. I love the Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin…but there’s not much Punk there. The Beatles had a bit when Lennon screamed, but look to The Stooges or The Monks, or Can…it’s the discord.
Put it in your writing, your painting, your cooking. A wee bit of Fuck You, have a nice day.
