Spider Death

Last night I killed a spider with the garbage disposal: it was in the sink already on the edge, I hit it with a splash of leftover milk, and it was just enough to knock it off balance, catch it in the drain, and flick the switch on the motor. It made the predictable sound, which is always ominous, but more so knowing the large spider was down there, somewhere.

This is the time of season for spiders. They’re at their biggest, and they’re popular figures for Halloween scenes. I found another one (plastic, over-sized) hanging out outside our garage at work yesterday, and I put it in my pocket thinking one of the kids would like it, later. I planned to spring it on one of them, or hide it somewhere surprising, but instead I just offered it to Lily and she said “yay!,” and took it into bed with her.
