I want to know what that red one is…the Academy Award winner. I bought the Flaming Lips “Clouds Taste Metallic” in Amsterdam in 1995/6 something like that. Carried it around all over Europe in my backpack, the one with the baseball glove but no sleeping bag. Finally listened to it once we got back to the States. Not sure if portable CD players existed back then but I didn’t have one/couldn’t have afforded one anyway. Back in my day we walked to school uphill both ways in the snow in Amsterdam, with an unopened CD in our backpacks.
I remember that story about the baseball mitt, thanks for pulling that up on the jukebox mister. God that cover, that clown they cast was downright creepy. Good business, that book. And the Lips — I can’t go there. It’s nice our tastes overlap and diverge at times. I probably should give it a chance, but as we discussed here before, I picked up with them at the Yoshimi era, really liked it, and the earlier stuff just kind of wigs me out, to use age-era appropriate vernacular.
