Tomorrow we fly to Dublin, then drive across the island to Ballyvaughan, Burren. We chose not to make hotel reservations for most of our stay, so we can be flexible and stop wherever we want. We’ll be driving stick, on the wrong side of the road, but the weather forecast looks good.
Today I took Charlotte for a walk over the Felsengarten vineyard to a saddle, where we dropped down into another valley. From this valley you can see the slopes where we picked grapes on Saturday (the green tarp is still up, which we sat under while barbecuing).
It was raining lightly when we left, but I had her in a sweater with a hat, and in the backpack she is mostly protected from the rain. We got caught in it once we got into the woods though, and the rain turned to hail. I got under a tree for a bit, and debated what to do. I took off my rain jacket and tied it around her, put her back on my back, and then set out running through the vineyard. It let up, and the Modest Mouse song “The Stars Are Projectors” came up on my iPhone. It reminded me how good they were.
We need to pack and finalize our train reservations to Frankfurt, for our flight tomorrow morning. Gilles seems confused as to why we’re doing this (going to Ireland in mid-October, when the kids are sick) but I explained, “because we can.”
